Villa Paradiso.
The House by the Lake

My name Is Villa Paradiso
For almost a century, I have watched over Lake Garda.
I was born in 1934 with another name: Villa Comelli.
I was designed by Giovanni Muzio, one of the leading figures of twentieth-century Italian architecture.
He chose the hill of Mavino for me, beside the ancient church of San Pietro, and turned me towards the lake and the light.
He designed large windows so that the sun could accompany my days and, from the highest rooms, the eye could travel across the lake, the olive trees and the Sirmione peninsula.
Then came the war and, for a time, I was requisitioned.
When silence returned to the lake, in 1946 a new family opened my gate.
It was then that I received the name I still bear today:
Villa Paradiso.
I do not know who chose it.
But perhaps they had already understood something.
Because a house is not made only of walls, windows and gardens.
It is also made of what it leaves in those who live within it.
And with this name, even today, I continue to welcome everyone who comes through my gate.
